Mutation and selection are two of the fundamental forces in evolutionary biology. I will present our recent work examining sources of variation in each of these forces. First, I will discuss how individual quality affects the rate and spectra of mutations. Second, I will discuss how sexual interactions affect the strength of selection genome-wide and how this is mediated by the physical environment in which sexual interactions occur.
