Workshop: “Excursions In The Dark”
May 18 – 20, 2007
Perimeter Institute
Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
This international conference on DARK ENERGY was jointly organized by the Origins Institute (OI) at McMaster University and by Perimeter Institute (PI), co-sponsored by the Canadian Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics (CITA).
The conference portion of this meeting was hosted by the Origins Institute for 4 days – Monday May 14 through Thursday May 17, on the campus of McMaster University, in Hamilton Ontario. The conference was immediately followed by a more focused workshop held from Friday May 18 through Sunday May 20 at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (PI) in nearby Waterloo, Ontario.
The conference was meant to bring together observers and theorists in astronomy, cosmology and particle physicists to highlight the observational evidence and theoretical ideas for Dark Energy, and to highlight the most promising future directions. To this end the meeting included broad review talks with which to start the discussion on each of the main areas of enquiry.
The workshop focused on novel theoretical ideas on the nature of the dark sector and their prospects for observations.
The main topics covered during the conference were:
I Observational evidence for Dark Energy
1. CMB
2. SN/Weak Lensing
3. Large Scale Structure
II Theoretical Approaches
4. Cosmology-Driven Approaches
5. IR Modifications to Gravity
6. Vacuum Issues and the Cosmological Constant Problem
7. More Radical Approaches
8. Future Directions
